Brightbill Builds Win Total On Sat. At New Egypt New Egypt, NJ (July 3) -- In a wild, action-packed "Big Bang 40" lap Modified main, Sinking Spring, PA's Kenny Brightbill scored his seventh win of the season on IMI Night Saturday at New Egypt Speedway.
"We were having a little bit of trouble up there on the cushion," Brightbill said after the hard-earned victory. Brightbill thanked his sponsors, including International Masonry Institute (IMI), which underwrote the night's racing.
Mike Hendershot led the way at the start of the 40-lap main with Tom Carberry giving chase. A turn 2 mixup on lap 4 found Kenny Brightbill involved and forced to pit with a left-rear flat. Carberry became the race leader on the restart with Tom Hager pressuring. As the field worked the fourth turn, Hager's inside run on Carberry put him in front. With Hager leading the way, six-time winner Billy Pauch began to press into the top five until he bounced over the cushion between turns 3 and 4. Pauch took his mount to the pits and returned to action. Hager led Eddie Bohn around the speedway as Brightbill worked for second. On lap 17, Brightbill moved into the runner-up slot and set his sights on Hager. Two laps later, Brightbill's inside charge down the back chute put him on top. Bohn then squeezed past Hager for second before Hager pulled into the pits. Bohn put up a strong bid for the lead against Brightbill, with Pauch moving into the picture, picking up third. The leaders moved up on slow traffic with Bohn continuing to challenge. With five to go, Tim Tanner Jr. brought out the red flag when his mount slammed the wall in turn 4; he was not injured. In the closing laps, Brightbill held a commanding lead on Bohn, who was hounded for second by Pauch. Brightbill came in for the win, trailed by Bohn, Pauch, Roger Laureno and Tanner Sr.
A very excited Kenny Roth exited his car in Victory Lane following the 15-lap Sportsman feature as the Hamilton, NJ driver scored his career-first win. "Those last two restarts were killers," said Roth, who held off hard charges by division point leader Keith Brightbill and Bob Worthington to score the popular win. Ron John Koczon and Brien Ely completed the top five.
Brick, NJ's Ralph Gargiulo returned from last week's backstretch flip to take his fourth Street Stock checker of the season. Pat Freiberger, Mick Search, Jeff Carpenter and current point leader Billy Bauer chased Gargiulo to the line.
Art's Radiator of Flemington presented racing radiators to top finishers Jeff Carpenter (Street Stock), Brien Ely (Sportsman) and Roger Laureno (Modified). The Mid-State Communications Modified Cash Dash, worth $150, was won by Billy Pauch. One lucky fan took home $1,847 in the nightly 50/50.
Next week, it's Wing Night with the popular URC Sprints headlining the action which includes Modifieds, Sportsman and Street Stocks. Gates open at 4, warm-ups at 5:30 and the first heat will go green at 6 pm. Adult admission is $18, children 7-12 are $6, and those 6 and under are free.
