LINCOLN, NE-August 31, 2000-Dave Trauernicht won his first Nebraska State Championship Thursday night as racing concluded for 2000 with IMCA Modifieds, at the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln. Over 60 IMCA Modifieds came to State Fair Park Raceway with Trauernicht leading the last 19 laps of the 25 lap feature. David Thome took the initial lead from his pole position while Trauernicht worked his way to second from his outside second row start. Trauernicht was able to hook up on the outside groove and powered around Thome. From there on Trauernicht coasted to an easy win. Kevin Larkins maneuvered past Thome in lapped traffic late in the race to claim the runner-up spot, leaving third for Thome. Jerry Warner and T. J. Artz filled out the first five, with Jeff James, Rich Erb, Kyle Berck, Tom Petracek and Ronnie Wallace completing the tom ten. The Classic Modifieds put on a great race with Jerry Rippen passing Jay Schilling coming around for the white flag to win his second straight state championship feature. Schilling fell to third behind Darren Pollman at the end with Stewart Holms and Jerod Hilkers taking the remaining top five spots. The IMCA Hobby Stock main was a race on endurance, as only four of the original 10 starters took the checkered flag. Derek Fralin survived to win the feature with Jeff Pitz Chuck Phillips and Dan Jackson the only other finishers. IMCA Modified heat race victories went to Larkins, Artz, Chris Alcorn, Stacey Wilhelm, Jason Gaver and Trauernicht. The 3 B mains were won by Wallace, Berck and Darren Hosick. Heat races in the Classic Modified division were won by Schilling and Chad Mahkey. The IMCA Hobby Stock heats were taken by Fralin and Brian Woolsey.
