LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas Motor Speedway action heated up on Saturday when the half-mile dirt oval crowned two IMCA Modified season champions along with champions in the IMCA Late Model, Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends and Thuderstox divisions.

Dan Fitzgerald and Jim Perkins tied for first place in the IMCA Modified division when they both received 442 total points for the racing season.

"Both drivers have earned the title of champion, they have just gotten to this point differently," said David Stetzer, director of short-track events.

Perkins, of Fort Mojave, Ariz., has won more races than any other IMCA Modified driver at LVMS this year. He has won five of the last 12 races. Fitzgerald, of Las Vegas, has finished in the top three seven times during the racing season.

The IMCA Late Model champion title was awarded to Bill Hasselle of Las Vegas with 361 points. Second place went to Mike Fitch with 332 points.

Las Vegas resident Sonny Wahl secured the championship in the Hitchin' Post/Exiss Legends division with 690 points. With 580 points, Rob Russell came in second.

With 655 points, Steve Taylor of Mesquite was declared the champion of the Thunderstox division. Chuck Trickle secured second place with 608 points.
