VERNON, NY -- Popular local driver Ronnie "Hot Shoe" Holmes of Oneida has landed a ride for the first two events of the 2002 season at Utica-Rome Speedway, as Holmes will be behind the wheel of the Sam and Linda Smith No. 72vt Bicknell chassis. Ageless veteran Andy Romano drove the car last season.

Holmes, the track champion in 2000, had recently sold his entire personal racing operation during the off-season, and did not have any concrete plans for the season. He drives the No. 72vt for the Smith's at Fonda Speedway on Saturday nights, and will now also race at Utica-Rome in the same car for at least the first two events of the year.

Utica-Rome Speedway's 2002 season begins this Sunday May 5 with a 40-lap Super DIRT Week Qualifier for the DIRT 358-Modifieds. Also in race action will be the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks for the first point races of the year on Gates-Cole Insurance Night. The gates will open at 4pm, and the green flag will drop on the new season of racing at 6pm.
