Hardeeville Motor Speedway to Host Demolition Derby on Saturday Night
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 10, 2002) - On Saturday night, July 13th, the Hardeeville Motor Speedway will host its first-ever demolition derby. Coastal Empire and Lowcountry race fans will also see the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, Legends Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Road Warriors in action on Saturday night. Road Warrior fan favorite, Chelsey Carr of Martinez, GA, will be entering the Demolition Derby on Saturday and during the post race interview after her July 3rd feature event said, "since I'll probably be the only girl out here, I'm going to guarantee a win!"
One lucky fan will have the chance to win the opportunity to race a Road Warrior car on Saturday night, July 20th. Fans will also have the chance to win other great prizes such as rides in the HMS Winston Cup car, tickets to upcoming events and hats. The Coca Cola Kid's Pedal Car races will also take place during intermission.
Last weeks racing action featured a multitude of first time winners for the 2002 season that included Tom Haidon of Hilton Head, SC in the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, David Taschner from Summerville, SC in the Xtreme Stock Cars, and James Beckett from Ridgeland, SC in the Street Stock class.
Gates open on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m. followed by the National Anthem at 7:05 p.m. General admission ticket prices are $10.00 for adults; $6.00 for Juniors (ages 13-16), Seniors (55 and older) and Military (with proper I.D.); $2.00 for children (ages 6-12); and children under 5 are free.

On Saturday night, July 20th, race fans will have the opportunity to see the USCS Outlaw Sprint Cars for the first time on asphalt in the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire area. These 1,300 pound, 700 horspower machines will reach speeds in excess of 140 m.p.h. on the 1.3-mile high banked asphalt oval.
