HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (June 13, 2001) - Mother Nature prevailed in Hardeeville Motor Speedway's attempt to host -Low Country Concrete Night at the Races- last weekend. Low Country Concrete will host this weekend's events, at the same time the track recognizes fathers, in honor of Father's Day on June 17. In addition to the weekly lineup that includes the O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, Legends Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Xtreme Stock Cars, Sky Lungston, a professional motorcycle stunt jumper, will perform at the Hardeeville Motor Speedway.
Persistent rain showers fell upon the track last Saturday, forcing the speedway's first cancellation of the 2001 race season. Low Country Concrete, which was the evening's sponsor, will now host the events this weekend. Also, the first 100 fathers through the gate will receive a special gift.
Low Country Concrete's sponsorship will come in handy for Lungston, who will attempt to jump over several of their concrete trucks, as well as other vehicles. Lungston will make three separate jumps, with his final pass sailing him through the air and across the trucks. The Bradenton, Fla. resident began his career in 1988 after viewing Robbie Knieval's historic jump over the Caesar's Palace fountains in Las Vegas, Nev. The 35-year-old Lungston currently holds two world records and has successfully landed over 3,000 jumps during his 13-year career. He is also one of only three motorcycle stunt jumpers to have jumped the Great Wall of China. Lungston will roam the grandstands throughout the evening, meeting with the Hardeeville Motor Speedway fans and signing autographs, while showing off his two Burmese python snakes.
Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The green flag waves at 5:30 p.m. for qualifying races. Feature races are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Hardeeville Motor Speedway is located three miles southeast of I-95 on Highway 17. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, with reduced rates for seniors, military and children. Children under five are admitted free. Information is available at www.hardeevillespeedway.com or by calling (843) 784-RACE. Come check out the action at Hardeeville Motor Speedway! The place will be 'jumping!'
