Hardeeville Motor Speedway Ready to Celebrate Fourth of July with a Bang
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 2, 2001) - The Hardeeville Motor Speedway (HMS) is ready to celebrate the Fourth of July in grand style. The Hilton Head Island Honda Fourth of July Extravaganza takes place at the track this Wednesday, July 4, with a full lineup of racing, a record-setting performance by professional motorcycle jumper Sky Lungston, a live musical concert by Hilton Head's Michelle Murray and a fireworks show following all of the activities.
All seven divisions competing at Hardeeville Motor Speedway will be on hand for the Mid-Summer Championship on Wednesday. The O.C. Welch Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Late Models, four classes of Legends Cars, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Xtreme Stock Cars and the Bandolero Cars will all take to the track in what is a regular points race for the competitors. Few points separate the top competitors of each class in their chase for the track championships. Following the races, Hilton Head Island Honda presents Sky Lungston, a professional motorcycle stunt jumper.
Sky Lungston returns to the track to set a new world record. Lungston plans on jumping over 17 cars, in his attempt to set the record. Lungston appeared at HMS on June 16, making three successful jumps, and was a smashing success with the fans in attendance. Continuing the action at HMS, Michelle Murray, a country music singer from Hilton Head, S.C., will perform in the infield of the track Murray, a notable local artist, is one of the rising stars in country music.
Murray will perform a variety of her hits and will also start the evening's racing action with a live rendition of the National Anthem. Over the last few years, Murray has performed alongside several of country music's brightest stars, including Tracy Byrd, Mark Wills, Montgomery Gentry, Ricochet, John Michael Montgomery, as well as comedians Bill Engvall and Cledus T. Judd. In 1998, Murray released her first album, 'When You Close Your Eyes' and has released several more songs for national syndication, with The Gator 104.9 giving extensive local radio play. Murray, along with her band, 8 Mile Bend, will perform at Hardeeville Motor Speedway Wednesday evening. Murray precedes the finale for the evening, a fireworks show to cap off 2001's Fourth of July.
Grandstands will open at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4. Qualifying will begin at 6:00 p.m., with feature races immediately following.
