Porter cruises to win at Greenville-Pickens.

There was an unusual combination of racing conditions at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday. There was an early afternoon accident, the threat of rain, and a first-lap accident.

And Toby Porter led from start to finish in the Late Model Stock main event.

Porter, driving for Asheville's Jack Ingram, made winning look easy, with former track champion Gene Morgan sitting in second for the entire race.

The points situation started to stir early in the day.

Donnie Bishop was in practice when a Charger car blew an engine in front of him. Bishop suffered a windshield-deep collision with the wall.

"I tore the car up pretty bad, and I'm extremely sore," Bishop said before the main event. "I brought out our second car, but I really don't feel like driving too hard."

The backup car and the pain apparently were factors for Bishop, who finished seventh.

Then, on the first lap of the main event, a huge crash involved all but five drivers in the first turn.

When the cars were separated and the fenders somewhat straightened, Porter and Morgan were ahead once more, with Brandon McCarson third and David Roberts fourth.

Marty Ward was fifth, followed by Dennis Southerlin, Bishop and R.A. Brown. Gary Greenwood Jr., was ninth and Kevin McCarson was 10th.

Easley's Ken Guthrie was the winner from start to finish in the Super Stock main event, with C.M. Knight second and Robin Darnell third. Darnell worked his way from from ninth .

In Street Stock, Jimmy Mann Jr., charged from the fifth starting position to win, with Tim Sams charging from sixth to second.

Frank Dean was the winner in the first Charger race; Shane Gentry captured the Charger Two event.
