BECHTELSVILLE, PA AUGUST 29, 1999 . . . At least $20,000 will go to the winner of the 29th Annual THP Freedom 76 Modified Classic stock car race set for Grandview Speedway on Saturday, September 11. Racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. In the past some of the best known names in dirt track modified stock car racing have visited the T.H. Properties Freedom 76 victory lane. Last year's winner, Billy Pauch, has four victories in the classic. Duane Howard, one of the top local dirt track talents, has two wins. Kenny Brightbill, having a strong season, won the race in 1990. Chip Slocum, Tom Mayberry, Smokey Warren and Donny Erb have been past winners. Fred Rahmer, the all time leading modified feature winner at Grandview Speedway and now one of the top sprint car racers in the nation, has won the Freedom 76 more than once. Many of the top names in dirt track modified stock car racing are expected to test their skills against the banked one-third-mile, clay oval in Bechtelsville, PA, on Saturday, September 11 (rain date is September 12). With $20,000 in first place money plus other perks including lap money, a custom-made championship ring valued at $1,000, a winners circle jacket and more, the race is expected to attract close to 100 entries. 40 cars will start the classic. Second place will offer $10,000 and the 76-lap race will award $300 just to start the race. The Keystone Pretzel Bakery will post $1000 for the winner of the Cash Dash made up of qualifying heat winners. Kochel Equipment of Elverson, PA has a $350 Karcher Pressure Washer for the First Alternate and Area Auto Racing News will have an award for the Hard Luck Driver. Kochel Equipment, D&S Archery, Boyertown Times, Grandstand Race Bar, LiTech Motorsports, Stoudt Auto Sales and Salvage Transport Services will sponsor qualifying heats. One heat race remains available for sponsorship and the Minuteman 20, often the most competitive event of the night, is also available for sponsorship. A pre-race show, featuring music, live interviews, autograph sessions, appearances by Ms.Grandview and The THP Girls will begin at 3 p.m. Adult admission for the race is $20.00 while children 6- 11 will pay $5.00. Children under 6 will be admitted free. Pit admission is $30.00. Advance entry fee (including one pit pass) is $50.00 and on the day of the race the cost will be $60.00. Pits will open at 9 a.m. on race day, September 11. Advance ticket holders will be admitted to the grandstands at 1 p.m. while general admission ticket windows will open at 1:30 p.m. On Thursday, September 9, the annual Grandview Speedway Freedom 76 Golf Tournament will be presented at the Gilbertsville, PA Golf Club.
