BECHTELSVILLE, PA SEPT. 5, 1998 . . . The winner of the Schaeffer's Family Restaurant Freedom 76 modified stock car classic has just gotten a pay raise. Event organizer Bruce Rogers has announced that he is increasing the purse for the 28th annual race. The winner will earn at least $20,000 for a victory.

A stellar field of 358 modified stock car racers is expected to be at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, September 12, when racing gets the green flag at 7 p.m. Last year more than 90 racers were on hand for the race that pays more than $50,000 in prize money.

Fans coming to the track early on race day will have a chance to take part in pre-race activities starting at 3 p.m. Included will be a race car display, autograph sessions, music and driver interviews with track announcer, Ernie Saxton.

Special awards for racers taking part in the Freedom 76 include the Salvage Transport Service "Hard Charger Award" worth $200, the Kochel Equipment First Alternate Award which is a Karcher Pressure Washer, $100 to the ninth place finisher courtesy of Jim Gilmore, and a pair of driving shoes for the Hard Luck Driver courtesy of Area Auto Racing News.

The Minuteman 20, last chance for drivers to make the feature event, will be sponsored by BLC Motorsports. The qualifying heat races are sponsored by Kochel Equipment, Herb Auto Tag Services, Brinckman Coins, D&S Archery, Berks Mont Publishing, Hartman Roofing, Cheers Tavern, and Stoudt Auto Sales.

Admission price for adults is $20.00, youngsters 6-11 are admitted for $5.00, and young people under 6 are admitted free with a paying adult.

Many of the racers and team members will be taking part in the annual Freedom 76 golf tournament being presented at Gilbertsville, PA Golf Course starting at 8:30 a.m.

Schaeffer's Family Restaurant, sponsor of the race, is located in downtown Boyertown and is one of the most popular area eateries. This is the first year of their sponsorship.
