CARQUEST joins Autodrome Granby
GRANBY, Qubec, September 7, 1998--From now on, the only Canadian event of the Mr. DIRT/Sunoco Race Fuels/Hoosier Tires series presented at Autodrome Granby will be known as the CARQUEST 200. Last weekend an agreement was concluded for the sponsorship of this US$ 47,500 race. The CARQUEST 200 will be held on September 20, 1998.
At the announcement of the new name of this race , Mr. Michel Rondeau, marketing director for the Quebec province for CARQUEST said, "Our company is in the automobile industry and motorsports are a very good marketing vehicle. In the United States, where our company has over 1,400 Carquest dealers we are involved with many motorsports organizations of which DIRT Motorsports is part. In Quebec, we are in expansion and we could not refuse Autodrome Granbys invitation. We attended a race a few weeks ago and we were pleased by their professionalism. Its with great pleasure that I invite all motorsports fans to this first CARQUEST 200, an outstanding event in North America."
The owners of Autodrome Granby are very pleased with the involvement of CARQUEST. For promoter Bob Gatien, the Mr. Dirt series event is the most important dirt track race in Canada not only for its purse but by the quality of the drivers. "The Carquest 200 is certainly the race of the race for motorsports fans who can not travel Syracuse, each year in October for the Fays 300 because of a lack of time or for budget reasons. For the last four years, we have been presenting this race because we believe in the quality of the product." Said Mr. Gatien
"This year, we changed the date to insure ourselves the participation of the best drivers of the DIRT circuit. Also, in our program we included the three regular categories of Autodrome Granby to offer to our fans a complete day of racing excitement," he concluded.
For this CARQUEST 200, the gates will open at 11:00 a.m. and the first qualification race will be presented at 1:00 p.m. In case of rain, the CARQUEST 200 will be rescheduled on Monday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m.. Due to the curfew imposed to Autodrome Granby, some classes may be withdrawn from the schedule.
