King Wins UARA-STARS Race At Newport Speedway

NEWPORT, Tenn. (May 1, 2004) -- Mark King won the East Tennessee Trailers 150 at Newport Speedway, his first career victory in the UARA-STARS series.

The series, for asphalt late model stock cars, competes exclusively on Goodyear tires. The tire used at Newport Speedway was Goodyear's D1132, a part of Goodyear's bias-ply line of race tires.

King's victory came after a record-setting qualifying session. Steve Wallace, son of NASCAR star Rusty Wallace, was the fastest of five drivers to surpass the existing track record during time trials. Wallace's time was 13.060 seconds, an average of 110.26 mph, around the 4/10-mile, high-banked oval. It was Wallace's first pole in series competition.

Lee Tissot finished second in the race, followed by Andy Johnson, Terry Allison and Alex Yontz.

Jason York, who finished eighth at Newport, leads the championship standings with 372 tallies. Allison is next with 369 and Tissot is third with 357.
