SUSSEX, Wis. - Ricky Johnson has one last chance at victory as the 2000 ASA Series season wraps up this weekend at the Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill. Johnson, the 1999 ASA Rookie of the Year, has had somewhat of the "Sophomore Jinx" this year, but Johnson hopes to rid himself of that this Saturday night in the BFGoodrich Tires 200.
"I look at Gateway two ways," Johnson said. "First off, I'm sorry to see the season coming to an end, but I eagerly await the chance to win and race again. The Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team and I are still confident about getting our first win. Gateway would be a great place to capture it and a great way to end the season."
"Both Mark (Dismore, Herzog Motorsports teammate) and I tested well at Gateway and it's a great racing track," Johnson commented. "It's the biggest track we race on and I think the ASA cars will be impressive there. There will be a lot of passing because there's a lot of room for it. It's going to be a good race."
Johnson is currently ninth in the ASA National Point Standings, 70 points behind seventh and 59 points behind eighth place. Johnson has captured three top-5 finishes, eight top-10 finishes and has finished in the top-20 for 15 of the 19 races. Johnson has also garnered one pole position, setting the track record at the Lanier National Speedway.
The BFGoodrich Tires 200 on Saturday evening concludes the 2000 ASA ACDelco Series season. The race will begin at 9:00 p.m. EST and be broadcast live on TNN Sports.
