Pendleton, IN (February 7, 2003) -- VP Racing Fuels has extended their agreement the American Speed Association to be the exclusive supplier for the 2003 ASA Racing Series. Teams will continue using the VP Racing Fuels product known as "Motorsport 93."
"We are pleased to extend our relationship with VP Racing Fuels," said Greg Carr, ASA National Sales Manager. "Their quality product and service to our competitors has been first-rate. In addition, with their contingency awards makes them a valued member of our series."
VP Racing Fuels has been producing fuel for the motorsports community since 1975. Their impressive track record includes 2001 ASA National Champion and Rookie of the Year Johnny Sauter and most recently 2002 Champion Joey Clanton.
The 2003 program is designed to spread the cash awards among the competitors, including $3,000 to the National Champion and $2,000 to the rookie of the year. As part of the contingency awards, VP Racing Fuels will sponsor the Front Runner Award offered to any driver who can win an event from the pole. The $500 award will carry over from event to event when not claimed. In addition, VP Fuels will continue to sponsor the Rookie of the Race Award.
During the 2002 season, the VP Front Runner award was claimed on five occasions, with 2002 Champion Joey Clanton a beneficiary of the program on three occasions. Clanton initially won $3,000 at Irwindale Speedway in April and won again the following week at South Boston. Butch Miller grabbed $2,250 bonus at Berlin Raceway in June and also won the award at Jennerstown. Over the course of the final five races of 2002, the bonus program went unclaimed, raising the award to $4,250 for the 2003 season-opening event.
ASA will open its 2003 season at USA International Speedway in Lakeland (FL) on March 20-22.
