FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- (Sept 11, 2002) Rodney Melvin picked up the checkered flag in the UMP Late Model feature during a special Wednesday night show at the Fredericktown Raceway. Melvin worked his way from the outside of the fourth row, through some quality competition to earn the victory with 2002 Fredericktown track champion Mike Hammerle taking second, Ed Dixon third, Jim Morrison fourth and Ken Rumble fifth. They were followed by Jimmy Burwell, Brian Wolfmeier, Ron McQuerry, John Bohn and Henry Nash.

David Jumper won the first heat race with Hammerle second and Joe Morris third. Mike Abney won the second heat with Bobby Melvin second and Rodney Melvin third. Dixon won the third heat with Frankie Martin second and Rumble third. Martin won the dash with Jumper second and Hammerle third. There were a total of 19 late models.

In the UMP Modified class, Scott Weber of Festus cruised home with the win in the feature. Ray Walsh finished in second place with Kevin Epperson third, John Campbell fourth and Chris Boyd fifth. They were followed by Ricky Cross, Rusty Griffaw, Paul Meyer, Jeff Lebaube, Rich Whaley and Dr. Chris Sloan.

Lebaube won the first heat with Weber second and Whaley third. Griffaw won the second heat with Epperson second and Walsh third. Griffaw won the dash with Lebaube second and Weber third.

In the Pure Street class, Theran Pearl of Bismarck (and 2002 track champion of the class) strolled home with the feature win. Bill Kelley captured second place with Wesley McDowell third, Jeff Canterberry fourth and Lenny Terrell fifth. They were followed by Leonard Betch, Ray Dodd, Bryan King and Shawnda Bader.

Pearl also won the heat race with Bader second and Kelley third. Terrell won the second heat with Pearl second and Betch third. Pearl was the "trophy" winner for the best overall finish of the two heat races. Racing action for the 2002 season at the Fredericktown Raceway will conclude this Friday night for all four classes (UMP Late Models, RAMS Mini Stocks, Pro Streets and Pure Streets).
