August 25th, St. Augustine, FL - Drivers have been saving up energy and horsepower for two weeks now, being denied the chance to race the fast half mile Florida Speed Park oval due to two consecutive rainouts. Saturday night, with all divisions scheduled to race, speedway officials are hoping that the third time is a charm.

"We've been very fortunate this year to avoid rain cancellations," says speedway manager Louis Smith. "It seems like it's rained almost every weekend, but it's missed us each time. I guess we were due."

Highlighting Saturday's lineup is a 50 lap Thunder Truck event rescheduled from a rainout two weeks ago. Points leader Ron Thomas will pick back up on his quest to claim his first ever speedway division championship. He and Wade Lynn have been battling up top since the beginning of the season.

Two-time defending track champion Kenny Hall is planning a return to action Saturday night, stepping up to take on challenges in the Late Model division. The Late Model races have featured impressive runs from points leader Donnie Oden, Larry Osteen, Jeremy Fitch, Scotty Lagasse and Jared Allison lately, and the addition of Hall raises the competition to new heights.

"Kenny is a super race car driver," says Smith. "He's aggressive, and he knows his way around this speedway. I'm sure the Sportsman drivers are glad to see him move up."

Jason Garver will renew his effort this week to unseat Todd Ponce in the Sportsman division. Garver, who had choice words for Ponce's driving during the last feature, is running a distant second in the points but has been closing the gap on the speedway week after week.

Robert Deal highlights an impressive field of Rick's Muffler Modifieds Saturday night. Deal, who is averaging more points per race than any other driver in the ARA Weekly Racing Series, is set on claiming the inaugural national points championship.

"I want to win this thing," says Deal. "That's my goal. This whole team is committed to it."

The ARA Weekly Racing Series includes drivers from all divisions at all ARA speedways throughout the southeast. Over 1000 drivers have competed in ARA points races this season. Deal currently rests in 7th place nationally, but is expected to climb quickly through the close of the season due to his average and the remaining races.

Tattoo Dee's Old Rooster Mini Stocks and the Alpha Communications Hobby Stocks are also scheduled. Gates open at 5:00 pm, with qualifying at 6:45 and features at 8:00 pm. Rain checks from the previous two weeks' cancellations will be accepted.
