Dennis Strickland was the surprise winner of the SLM 50-lap feature Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway. Outside polesitter, Joe Hawes, led the first 29 laps before an overheating problem sent him to the sidelines. Rick Knowles took over for the next 16 laps until getting together with the strong running Tim Hebert, who was running in second place. Knowles spun and both drivers went to the rear giving the lead to Strickland. A serious accident happen oned a second complete restart when Hawes was spun on the backstretch and was hit by Royce Cornett and Robbie Loving. Both Cornett and Loving’s cars slid into the infield after Loving’s car climbed on top of Cornett’s car. When the pair came to a stop Loving’s car executed a slow flip landing on it’s roof. Both drivers were okay with Cornett continuing after a short pit stop to removed damaged sheet metal. Loving also returned to the event 35 laps later after making repairs.

Terry Humphrey celebrated his victory in the 50-lap Street Stock A main by turning doughnuts on the frontstretch. It was his first victory of the season. Humphrey was heavily pressured throughout the event by Ron Allen and Tom Selmi, who was driving a new car in the event.

Bill Kollinger held off a late charge by Lonnie York to win the 20-lap Street Stock B-main. Larry Smothers Jr beat Brian Bradley for the win in the 12-lap Street Stock C-main.

Kenny Ahlgren’s win in the 50-lap Figure 8 feature was his fifth of the season at Flat Rock. Jerry Lee Jr was the first leader of the event until Danny Leppen got around him on lap 24. Leppen held the lead until the restart of the third red flag period on lap 41. Leppen, Greg Studt, Jeremy Miller and Ahlgren went four wide when the quartet came upon a lapped car. Ahlgren dove low and took over the lead, closely followed by Miller.
