The Michigan Speedway Promoters Association awarded their Promoter of the Year award to Ron Drager. Drager in turn presented the award to manager Scott Schultz who runs the day to day operations of the track.
New for '98 will be winged Figure 8's. This class will be allowed to attach wings to their roofs, much the same as sprint cars do.
In '98 the B Main Street Stocks will have a point system on Saturday nights & a champion will be crowned at season's end. For the past several years the B Main Street Stocks have garnered points when they ran as a preliminary event to the Sunday afternoon Enduros.
The Gold Cup for the Super Late Model division will increase to a 4 race series next year. There will be two 50 lap events, a 100 lapper & a championship race of 150 laps.
Several special awards were given out: Randy Cronenwett won the pole position award for the Auto Value Figure 8 Series. Ken Ahlgren Sr, engine builder of Kenny Ahlgren's #69 took home the AE Clevite Award for the best average qualifying & finishing positions.
The Most Popular Driver awards & $100 each went to: Royce Cornett (SLM), Rick Knowles (SS) & Randy Cronenwett (Figure 8).
Rookie of the Year in each division were: Rick Hahn (SLM), Regan Ford (SS) & Greg Studt (Figure 8)
Sportsman of the Year in each division: Rich Theil (SLM), Tony Ortega (SS) & Dennis Whisman (Figure 8).
The 4 champions Bill Steinhilber (SLM), Rick Knowles (SS), Bob Studt (Figure 8) & Barry Reeck (B Main SS) all received a toolbox along with Vern Okopski Jr who was randomly chosen to also receive a toolbox.
