A standing room only crowd squeezed into Flat Rock Speedway to watch the first ever School Bus Figure 8 race on Saturday night.

The eight buses were driven by Figure 8 drivers: Dennis Whisman, Robbie Loving, Eric Hart, Scot Bunge, Vern Okopski Jr and Randy Cronenwett along with street stock drivers: Regan Ford and Brian Norton. Cronenwett and Ford took heat wins and started at the rear of the field for the 15 lap features. Ford made daring three-wide moves on the way to the win in the feature.

Forty-five street stocks joined the buses in the pits. Fifteen cars were inverted for the start of the 30 lap A main. Mike Kieffer started on the pole and led for the first eight laps before a spin forced the rookie competitor to the rear of the field.

Tony Ortega inherited the field and held the point until Randy Casey passed him to the high side on lap 19. Fast qualifier, Brian Norton, and second fast qualifier, 1997 and 98 Street Stock champion Rick Knowles, had been picking their way to the front and a caution with a couple laps to go allowed them to catch the leader. Casey withheld the pressure from Knowles and Norton to take the win, the second of the season for the Canadian driver.

Terry Humphrey came from the middle of the pack to record his first win of the season in the 20 lap B main.

FAST QUALIFIER: Brian Norton, 13.500 'A' DASH: Ron Allen 'B' DASH: Jerry Eritano 'A' HEATS: Mike Spruell, Mo Volckaert 'B' HEATS Lonnie York, Dave DeBash 'A' MAIN: Randy Casey, Rick Knowles, Norton, Arnold Hall, Allen, Jeff Carnacchi, Bryan Ausmus, Jim Selmi, Spruell, Mike Baas 'B' MAIN: Terry Humphrey, Rob Murphy, Dan Doyle, York, Mark Howie
