Walt Michal's RV Center night at Flat Rock Speedway saw three first time feature winners in the street stock divisions, while veterans showed the way in the other divisions. Winning their first career feature wins were Regan Ford, James Potter and Dave DeBash. The ARCA Lincoln Welders midget division made their second visit of the season to the high-banked quarter mile track.
Outside front row starter, Dennis Strickland, got the jump on polesitter Steve Cronenwett and led the first 10 laps until Ron Allen dipped to the low side, passing Strickland for the lead and eventual win. Steve Bunge moved around Strickland with a handful of laps remaining. Bunge mounted a challenge for the lead the final two circuits, getting up to Allen's door but was never able to complete the pass.
The Lincoln Welder midget series had a return appearance at the track and a repeat winner. Gene Lee Gibson was the driver to beat when the series was at the track in early May and he was the one to beat this weekend also. Jerry Nemire was on the pole for the start of the 25 lap feature and led until lap 10 when Gibson flashed under him for the point. Gibson built up a commanding lead, winning over Nemire.
Each of the street stock races had a first time winner. Because of the additional races with the midget series, the street stock division only ran features tonight. Ford inherited the lead in the 25 lap A main on lap two when fellow front row starters Jim Froling and Bob Rae tangled in turn three. Several drivers tried to pass the sophomore driver, first Tom Selmi and then Ron Allen, but Ford prevailed with Allen finishing second, while Selmi faded back to fifth. In the B main James Potter fought side by side with Bryan Ausmus for many laps before inching ahead at the checkered flag. Randy DeMaggio made a late race challenge passing Ausmus at the finish line by inches over Ausmus. Dave DeBash took the victory in the C main, the first win of his career.
Bob Studt's black and yellow #54 slipped a little coming down to complete lap 10 in the Figure 8 feature but it was enough for Parker Wade to slip around him. Wade withstood heavy challenges from Randy Cronenwett for the remainder of the race and hung on for his second win of the season.
