Rick Knowles again outpaced the field for the victory Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway. Knowles fourth win in five races didn’t come easy as he fought side-by-side with rookie Regan Ford for over 15 laps before inching into the lead for good. Outside polesitter John Rowloff led the first lap before giving way to (polesitter) Ford. The SLM’s were very racy Saturday as there were exciting battles going on throughout the field. Don St. Denis, who started last after a dismal qualifying run (he spun), put on a terrific show by fighting his way from the back of the pack twice to finish ninth.
The third heat saw most of the field eliminated in a first lap accident with only Ron Allen and Robbie Loving remaining. The pair put on a exciting side-by-side battle for the entire five-lap race and came across the start-finish line in a dead heat.
Polesitter Randy Casey was the early leader until he was run down by the Brian Norton/Ron Allen express. Norton, who was involved in a lap four accident, caught up to the leader in traffic. Brian followed closely by Allen shot past Casey, who got caught behind a group of lapped cars, on lap 18. Allen tried every which way to get around Norton, but to no avail, and had to settle for second. With the exception of the race won by Tom Selmi, the A-main street stock feature this season has been won by either Norton or Allen. This year the duo has visited victory lane three times each.
Rich Abel able led the entire 15-lap B-Main feature, taking home his second checkered flag of the season. Tony Manoyian won the C-Main.
Happy Birthday Jeremy Miller!! The 26-year old Miller celebrated his birthday Saturday night with his first feature win of the season at Flat Rock. The second-generation driver took over the lead from polesitter, Randy Cronenwett, on lap 15 and went on to beat Ken Ahlgren and Cronenwett. A stellar field of 19 cars started the feature event which put on the usual exciting criss-crossing action at the intersection.
