Final Night Of 358-Modified Points This Sunday August 26 At Utica-Rome
VERNON, NY -- The hard fought battle for the DIRT 358-Modified track championship and top points rankings will end this Sunday August 26 at Utica-Rome Speedway on the final night of 358-Modified points. Scheduled in race competition are the DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots. Race time at the popular half-mile clay oval is set for 6pm.
Todd Burley of Spencerport has already locked up the DIRT 358-Modified track championship, but the real battle will be from second on down to ninth in the season point standings as just under 100 points separates them. To date, Ryan Baye holds down second, with Jason Barney, Gus Schmidt, J.J. Michaels, Paul Jensen, Steve Hulsizer, John Ramsey, Jack Johnson, and Andy Romano completing the top ten. All those drivers will be on hand this Sunday along with Mitch Gibbs, Ted Lamb, John Barker, Ron Holmes, and Wayne Reutimann Jr. to try to grab the huge 30-lap victory and improve their positions in the season long standings.
The battle for the track championship in the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots will end one week later on September 2. Tim Clemons, Jamie Christian, and Willy Decker are the three drivers in contention for the DIRT Sportsman track championship, but Clemons appears to have the upper hand as time wears down. Jerry Holmes and Bret Belden are locked in an intense battle for glory in the DIRT Pro Stocks, with neither driver willing to give an inch. Jeff Pastorella appears headed for his first career Pure Stock track championship, as does Denny Tilison in the Slingshots.
The gates this Sunday August 26 at Utica-Rome Speedway will open at 4pm, with racing beginning promptly at 6pm. The track is located on Route 5 in Vernon and is easily accessible from New York State Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
