DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 17, 2004) -- Fergus Falls Raceway officials confirmed that they have signed as a Level II participant in the ASA Racing Member Track program for the 2005 season, joining their sister track I-94 Speedway with the affiliation.
Located in Fergus Falls, Minn., the 0.375-mile racetrack is owned by brothers Tim and Ted Olson. According to Tim, the 2005 season will see the facility "bring it back to the basics with more grassroot classes and more entry-level racing."
One big change this year is the re-introduction of the Pure Stock class, a division that the track used to sanction.
"The drivers were asking for it," Tim explained about the addition of the Pure Stock class. "The class had been popular, but it had evolved over the years into the Thunder Cars. What we are trying to do is to go back to the beginning and create more interest in racing by adding classes that don't have a high cost of participation and working to get more competitors involved."
"Fergus Falls Raceway is taking a small step back in order to take several large steps forward down the road," explained Dennis Huth, president of Racing Speed Associates which owns and operates the ASA Racing Member Track program. "I think their strategy of adding grassroot classes such as the Pure Stock will pay big dividends in developing more teams and drivers that will get hooked on the sport and move up to more advanced classes. This should benefit both Fergus Falls Raceway and I-94 Raceway for years to come with a solid base of competitors to draw from."
Other classes that will compete at Fergus Falls Raceway this season include Late Models, B-Modifieds, Legend Cars, U-Cars and Enduros. The track runs their weekly program on Friday nights and the complete schedule, news, and updates can be found online at www.fergusfallsraceway.com or by calling (612)327-5831.
"We decided to remain with the ASA Racing Member Track program because my brother and I agree with most everything that Dennis (Huth) does and how he does it in the program," Tim said on why both his racetracks joined the ASA Racing Member Track program. "Dennis is a good sounding board for ideas because his years of experience in working with the weekly racetracks have given him a clear sense of what will work, what might work, and what won't work."
Tracks and regional touring series that join the ASA Racing Member Track Level II program are eligible to receive marketing assistance, enhanced participant accident insurance, and will be the spot for today's fans to watch the stars of tomorrow learn the trade. Huth indicated that he has other exciting ideas and plans to help take the local racing programs to new levels and to further enhance the coverage of the tracks and series competitors.
