Indianapolis, Ind. (January 13, 2002) - Team Owner Steven Stewart of Stewart Motorsports and Sunoco Super Series (formerly Kendall Late Model Series) veteran Todd Oliver officially announced their partnership today in their quest for the 2002 Championship.

The Sunoco/Stewart Automotive Race Team will sport a number 99 and a paint scheme similar to Sunoco NHRA Funny Car driven by Jim Epler. “I think the new look will turn some heads,” stated driver Todd Oliver, “The number 88 and the old Sunoco look represents my parent’s team and what we accomplished. The number 99 has been with Stewart Motorsports for a long time and it is a privilege to keep the number alive. With these changes, what we are announcing today is a new chapter in Sunoco stock car racing.”

To assist the efforts of winning the 2002 Championship, Stewart Motorsports announced the addition of long-time short track veteran DeWaine McGunegill. “DeWaine knows short track racing from every dimension. He has driven in ASA, manages a successful engine business, and has proven setup skills demonstrated with the results of Rick Turner,” commented Todd. “Between Steven, DeWaine and I, we will have the knowledge to be get Sunoco their first win.”

The 2002 Sunoco Super Series season opens at the quarter-mile Anderson (Ind.) Speedway on Saturday, April 20. For up-to-the-minute coverage, fans can visit the official series website at www.sunocosuperseries.com.
