Hantz Wins Buckeye Dash Sunoco Super Series Race

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Sept. 14, 2004) -- Sunoco Super Series veteran Scott Hantz beat a field of short track stars when he won the Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Dash at Columbus Motor Speedway.

Goodyear is the exclusive tire supplier for the series. Goodyear also sponsors the Goodyear Performance Awards. Junior Hanley and Eddie Van Meter won the awards at Columbus.

Hantz had to pass midwestern short track hero Gary St. Amant to take the lead 39 laps into the race around the 1/3-mile oval. Hantz led the rest of the race, but had to struggle to hold on over the final laps.

Robbie Pyle finished second after working Hantz over during the final laps. St. Amant was third, followed by Steve Moenck and Van Meter.

Ken Schrader, the Nextel Cup star, crashed shortly before the halfway point of the race and finished well back in the scoring.

Chuck Barnes Jr. collected his fourth fast time award during qualifying, setting a track record while doing so.
