Eddie Hoffman Takes The Lead In The Scott Performance Wire Five State Challenge
Salem, IN (October 24, 2005) -- With his second place finish in the World Cup 150 at I-70 Speedway on October 1st, "Fast" Eddie Hoffman has now taken over the lead in the Scott Performance Wire Five State Challenge, an award program based upon five selected CRA Super Series points events in the five states the series will have points events in 2005, heading into the fifth and last event with the Challenge at Rockford Speedway, in Rockford, Illinois this Saturday. The Chicago International Trucks 250, the feature event of the 40th Annual National Short Track Championships, was originally scheduled to run on Sunday, September 25th, but Mother Nature interfered with rain, which resulted in the event being rescheduled for this Saturday.
Besides the lead going into Saturday's event, Hoffman will also have the advantage of starting on the pole of the Chicago International Trucks 250 as the top 26 starters were already locked into the event from qualifying, qualifying races and series points provisionals. Hoffman will receive third place qualifying points, but gets to start on the pole thanks to Brian Johnson Jr., the events Bicycle Playing Cards -- Menards Fast Qualifier who drew a three for the inverted start of the event, which put Hoffman, last years winner of this event, on the pole.
The Scott Performance Wire Five State Challenge will pay the driver who gets the most series points in the five events a $500 bonus and a set of Scott Performance Wires. The second place driver in the Scott Performance Wire Tri-State Challenge will receive a $300 bonus. The third place driver in the Scott Performance Wire Tri-State Challenge will receive a $200 bonus. Scott Performance Wire will also award the 2005 CRA Super Series Champion with a set of Scott Performance Wires and an additional set of Scott Performance Wires that will be given away by random draw of the top fifteen teams in final series points at the 2005 series awards banquet.
Currently setting in second in the Scott Performance Wire Five State Challenge is 16-year-old part-time CRA Super Series driver Landon Cassill, only 8 points behind Hoffman. All five Challenge events were on Cassill's abbreviated series schedule, and Cassill has taken advantage in those events with a 4th place finish in May at Winchester Speedway, in Winchester, Indiana, a 5th place finish in the World Cup 150 at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri, a 6th place finish at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio and a 14th place finish at Kalamazoo Speedway, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Current CRA Super Series driver's point's leader Jeff Lane is in third 20 points behind. Chris Gabehart is in fourth 22 points behind, while J.R. Roahrig is in fifth place 31 points behind. Eddie Van Meter, currently second in CRA Super Series driver's point's, is in sixth 33 points behind.
