NYS pavement series to air on EMP beginning May 9th.
Oswego, NY . . . Empire Sports Network Director of Operations, Joe DelBalso, recently announced that EMP will televise 18 short track events from six different race tracks throughout New York State beginning with the 2001 Sunoco Race of Champions 200 on Thursday, May 9 and culminating with the 2002 Budweiser Int'l Classic 200 on Thursday, September 19. All programs will be on a tape delayed basis with no less than five exciting pavement divisions taking center stage throughout the spring and summer months.
The Empire Sports Network NYS Pavement Series telecasts will be one hour in length from 7:30 to 8:30 pm on Thursday nights immediately following This Week on DIRT. The series will cover races from Oswego Speedway, Adirondack Int'l Speedway, Tioga Motorsports Park, Chemung Speedway, Lancaster Motorsports Park and Holland Speedway featuring Oswego supers, ISMA supers, RoC modifieds, Cup Lites and NORA limited supers.
Paul Szmal and Joe Marotta will host the NYS Pavement Series for the fourth consecutive season and their vast knowledge of short track racing in the Northeast adds a great deal to the show's appeal. Another key ingredient to the show's popularity is the production talent of Mike Gibson and his County Video Service crew located in Oswego, NY. Gibson, who has produced racing videos for more than 20 years, has a staff of six experienced videographers who find where the action is on the track rather than focusing on just the leader. Nostalgia pieces, tech segments and driver interviews will continue to be a part of the one hour weekly show, and the Trinity graphics system acquired by County Video in 2001 will be used even more extensively in 2002 to improve the overall quality of the telecasts.
For the third year in a row, Mike Gibson received the International Reel Wheel Film Festival's Golden Wheel award for excellence in auto racing film production from the National Sprint Car Museum in Knoxville, Iowa. This time, Gibson won in the "single event" category for his production of the 2001 Budweiser International Classic 200.
According to Oswego Speedway promoter, Romey Caruso, "I think we have a great mix of races for the 2002 NYS Pavement Series on Empire Sports Network. The show will be preempted on Thursday, June 13 and Thursday, August 8 by previously scheduled programming, but Joe DelBalso has agreed to begin airing the series two weeks earlier than last year to maintain an 18 telecast schedule. We are extremely pleased by the amount of positive feedback we continue to receive by viewers across the country and we're committed to keep making improvements to the show."
