CRA SUPER SERIES SET FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND RETURN TO ANGOLA MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Salem, IN (June 30, 2005) -- The CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power is set to resume its traditional July 4th Holiday Weekend stop at Angola Motor Speedway with Saturday's Hargus Mullins Firecracker 125. For several years the series had been a part of that traditional show, but it was put on hold last season, as the track was closed for the entire 2004 season while going through several different renovation projects. When the CRA Super Series and its fans return this Saturday they will see new front-stretch grandstand seating, a new race control tower, new spectator concession stands and restrooms, new track lighting and a renovated pit concession area.
"Its great to be back at Angola Motor Speedway again for the traditional July 4th weekend event," remarked Glenn Luckett, Director of the CRA Super Series. "I know it was tough for the track to be closed a year, but people will see why when they get there. Track owners Dick and Jackie Poe have really invested a lot of time and money into improving Angola Motor Speedway, everyone with the CRA Super Series greatly appreciates there efforts in providing the series a first class place to race!"
Angola Motor Speedway is the home track of 2000 CRA Super Series Champion Scott Hantz, and Hantz has taken advantage of his "home field" advantage by winning three of the series nine events there, the most of any series winner at Angola. Hantz won the last Hargus Mullins Firecracker 125 for the CRA Super Series at Angola Motor Speedway on July 4, 2003. Hantz led every lap holding off the challenges of Bobby Parsley who finished 2nd and JR Roahrig who finished 3rd.
1997 CRA Super Series Champion Kenny Tweedy holds the distinction of being the last series winner at Angola Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend in 2003. Tweedy took the lead from Scott Hantz on lap 91 after Hantz had led for 67 laps after passing early leader Tom Hernly Jr. Hantz would challenge Tweedy every lap until the end, but had to settle for 2nd that evening. The win was Tweedy's last series win, and his last win as a car owner and driver, Tweedy currently drives for series veteran car owner Floyd Fehl from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Pit Gates will open this Saturday at 1PM, with CRA Super Series practice beginning at 4PM. CRA Super Series qualifying is scheduled to begin at about 6PM. The race program will begin at 7PM and will include the Hargus Mullins Firecracker 125 for the CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power as well as racing from Angola Motor Speedway local divisions and Mad Bomber Fireworks.
