DANNY JACKSON LEADS THE CD-2 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR STANDINGS HEADING INTO SATURDAY'S ANDERSON 250 PRESENTED BY GREAT DEALS
Salem, IN (July 11, 2006) -- Loveland, Ohio's Danny Jackson has now taken over the lead in the CD-2 Rookie Of The Year Standings after eight of 17 CRA Super Series points events scheduled for the 2006 season. Two of the top contenders for the CD-2 Rookie Of The Year recently withdrew their names from contention for the award in order to try and compete for the award next season. John Van Doorn withdrew first after his team could not secure sponsorship to compete in the remainder of the series 2006 events. Former points leader Michael Gaier withdrew last week after his team was sidelined after a broken motor in the June 17th event at IRP. Both Van Doorn and Gaier can compete in one additional series point's event during the 2006 season and still retain their rookie eligibility for the 2007 season.
To date Jackson, the son of veteran late model competitor Dave Jackson, has an adjusted points total of 462 points, each rookie contender gets to drop their worst two finishes of the season. Roush Racing Development Driver Sondi Eden of Crawfordsville, Indiana is currently in second with 428 adjusted points. 16-year-old Alec Carll of Grand Rapids, Michigan is currently third with 414 points while Michigan City, Indiana native Rich Segvich is fourth with 384 points.
Jackson has won five CD-2 Rookie Of The Race Awards for being the highest registered rookie finisher in five of the series eight points events so far this season. Eden has won two CD-2 Rookie Of The Race Awards while Carll has won one. Jackson is currently 7th in overall series points while Eden is 8th, they are the only rookie competitors currently in the top ten in 2006 series points.
