Clay Campbell Picks Up Fourth Win Of Season

MARTINSVILLE, VA. -- Clay Campbell tightened his grip on the Limited Late Model Stock Division points race at Caraway Speedway Saturday night while picking up his fourth win of the season.

Campbell, the president of Martinsville Speedway, led every lap of the 30-lap Limited Late Model races, holding off second-place finisher Larry Sink.

"I kept the lead the entire race, but it was close," said Campbell, who now has posted 19 top-five finishes in 22 starts this season.

"He (Sink) made me work for it. It was one of my hardest races with somebody that close to me the entire time. But he drove me clean the whole race."

Campbell qualified fifth, but started on the pole when the top five qualifiers were inverted. At Caraway a blind draw is held before each race to invert the front of the field. And on this occasion, Campbell was fortunate enough to wind up on the pole.

"It wasn't really a good qualifying effort for us," said Campbell. "We made some drastic changes before qualifying and it didn't work for us."

Campbell drew the pole though, and was able to stay out front, despite a half-dozen caution periods and a couple of red-flag sessions.

"There were too many cautions for me," said Campbell. "Our car runs better when the tires are hot. I tried my best to keep them heated up under caution."

Campbell now has about a 100-point lead in the Limited Late Model championship chase with five races remaining in the season.
