ST. PAUL, Minn. (September 4, 2001) - Joey Clanton and the No. 83 Zaxby's Real Chicken team captured their ninth top-five finish of the 2001 season in yesterday's American Speed Association (ASA) Miller Lite 300 held at the Minnesota State Fair Speedway. The team crossed the line in the fourth position while moving up a spot in the ASA driver point standings.

Riding in the fourth position, Clanton made a late-race move at lap 299 going into turn three on the backstretch to gain positions. The No. 83 moved to the outside groove hoping to pass Gary St. Amant and Mike Garvey, but wasn't able to complete the advance. "At the end we almost had St. Amant and Garvey but the car slipped. We were close, but we just didn't have enough time."

While Clanton was hoping for a victory at the Minnesota half-mile track, he was pleased to bring home another top-five finish for the No. 83 Steve Dale Motorsports team. "I can't complain, we had a strong car, great weather and a track full of fans," stated a satisfied Clanton.

Joey Clanton and the No. 83 team will make their way this weekend to Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn. for the 18th event on the American Speed Association's 20-race schedule. Clanton is excited to return to the track where he captured his first ASA career win during his 2000 rookie season. "Memphis [Motorsports Park] is one of my favorite tracks, " stated Clanton.

"It is probably one of the fastest tracks that we visit on the ASA circuit and you have to have confidence in your racecar to do well at that track. The layout of Memphis is interesting because you have tight corners in [turns] three and four and sweeping corners in [turns] one and two. Hopefully with our experience and notes from our 2000 victory, we will be able to bring home a top finish for Zaxby's Real Chicken and Steve Dale Motorsports."

The Memphis Motorsports Park event is scheduled for Sunday, September 9. The green flag will drop at 2:00 p.m. EST, with racing action to be broadcast live on The National Network (TNN).
