FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (February 14, 2001) - This Saturday night, the St. Augustine Speedway is host to the American Speed Association (ASA) ACDelco Series' ASARacing.com 300.
Joey Clanton, ASA's 2000 Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year, is set to begin his second season in the ASA Series and plans on making his mark in 2001, starting at the season opener. This year's ASA competing class has several young, talented drivers including the 2000 rookie standout.
Clanton will be piloting the No. 83 Steve Dale Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo in hopes of capturing the ASA ACDelco Series Championship. Clanton, a graduate of Georgia Tech, debuted in the ASA series last season and picked up his first win in September at Memphis Motorsports Park on his way to wrapping up the rookie title.
"Our team is really excited to start the 2001 season at St. Augustine Speedway. Florida has some of the best racing in the nation, and it is an honor to race at this track," stated Clanton. "We tested at the track and accumulated a lot of information that will help us in setting up the car for the race," Clanton said. "The season opener can set the tone for the season, and we want to post a strong finish. The crew has been working hard to give me the best equipment. Now it is my job to put the No. 83 into victory lane."
The competition in the ASA ACDelco Series is fierce, with Joey Clanton as a favorite to win this weekend's race. The ASA season opener will be the first time the drivers of the series have competed on St. Augustine's half-mile track. The ASA debut at the St. Augustine facility coincides with Daytona Beach's Speedweeks where the stars of the NASCAR will be racing for victory.
Led by business entrepreneur, and racing enthusiast Steve Dale, Steve Dale Motorsports builds and races highly competitive winning cars. Based in Fayetteville, Ga., Steve Dale Motorsports has teams in both the American Speed Association and Legends Racing series. If you are looking for great short track racing, head to the St. Augustine Speedway for the ASARacing.com 300 beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST. The race will be televised live on The National Network (TNN).
