ATLANTA (July 10, 2001) - Joey Clanton is hoping to close in on the leader for the points championship this weekend in the American Speed Association's (ASA) tires.com 300 to be held Saturday from Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. The team currently sits fourth in the ASA Championship standings, with only 51 points separating the No. 83 Zaxby's Real Chicken team from the leader.

A win could notch up to 205 points for the No. 83 team, therefore, the top spot in the standings doesn't seem that far away. The Steve Dale Motorsports team has been very clear about their 2001 Series Championship mission, and they are preparing hard each week to at the top of the standings consistently and gain points on the number one position. With 11 races complete this season, the No. 83 team has claimed victory twice and has captured six top-five and eight top-10 finishes.

This weekend's track, Berlin Raceway, is a half-mile, semi-banked oval known to be a little tricky to drive. Clanton will have to face this weekend's challenging oval without the luxury of experience. The ASA field will be returning to the Marne, Mich. track after taking a year off during the 2000 season.

Clanton and the team hope the second place finish from last Sunday's race at Chicago Motor Speedway will carry them into victory lane. "We have had strong finishes this year, but the series competition just keeps raising the bar on the performance level," stated Clanton. "The ASA circuit is so competitive, but I think we have what it takes to take the win at Berlin."

Watch Joey Clanton and the Steve Dale Motorsports crew go for their third 2001 victory this Saturday, July 14. The tires.com 300 will air live beginning at 9:00 p.m. EST on The National Network (TNN).
