(Unity Maine 5-12-01) Chuck Lachance took his #38 Rockland Ford Pro Stock to victory lane at Unity Raceways 101 Lap Pro Stock Opener. After surviving an early race wreck, the team scored its first victory in 2001. Steve Nelson finished in second followed by Poncho Darveau.

The team hit the setup right out of the trailer. The car was running really well and looked like the car to beat. However, in the heat race traffic was tough to get through. The team had to settle for a fifth place finish. This put the LAstCHANCE Ford Thunderbird in the 9th place on the starting grid.

In the feature, Chuck wasted little time taking his car to the top three. On lap 23 the top three cars of Bub Raven, Matt Lee and Chuck Lachance were running nose to tail. After completing lap 24, a car spun out in the 3rd corner. The cars jammed on the breaks. Matt Lee couldn't stop in time and hit Bub Raven. With no place to go, Chuck joined the wreck. At first Chucks Car seemed badly damaged, but the team kept him on the track. The tires were clear and the radiator wasn't leaking.

On the restart, the nose of the car buckled. Chuck could only see out the side windows. He had to rely on his limited visibility and his spotter/crew chief Adam Lachance. Steve Nelson passed Chuck and took the lead. Chuck was able to keep pace with Nelson, but couldn't pass him with his limited visibility. His only chance to pass Steve would be on restarts.

On the next restart, Chuck couldn't get by Nelson and slipped back into second. With 15 laps to go Chuck got another chance. On the restart, Chuck got a good start and was able to pull in front of Steve Nelson. Chuck was able to hold the lead and the team won its first race of the season. Steve Nelson followed in 2nd and Poncho Darveau finished 3rd.

After the race, Chucks Crew Chief Adam Lachance commented on the finish. "We gave him the fastest car but he really had to work for this one. I'm very proud."

It was an exciting race and a great start to the 2001 Season. The team is in need of a primary sponsor and associate sponsors. For more information on LAstCHANCE RACING visit our website at http://www.maineracing.com/38
