SUSSEX, Wis. - The ASA ACDelco Series begins a nine-week stretch that starts this weekend at the new Chicago Motor Speedway in Cicero, Ill. Entering the USAMeats.com 200, Ricky Johnson and the Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com team are set to show their stuff as it gets down to showtime. Following the nine-week period, there will only be three races left to contest for the 2000 ASA National Championship.
"It's going to be a good race," Johnson said. "All these competitive cars on a flat, fast racetrack is going to be exciting. We need a good race to help us bounce back from the last few races where we've had some unfortunate runs. The Nationwide Auction Systems/WorldBestBuy.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo has run well at larger tracks, so we are looking to collect a top-5 at Chicago."
Although unable to test at the new one-mile oval, Johnson is depending on his teammate and his crew chief, Paul Christman, for guidance. "I wasn't able to test at Chicago, but my teammate, Mark Dismore and my crew chief attended," Johnson said. "I'm going to get feedback from them on the lay of the land. I know the track is going to be fast, with the little amount of banking. I'm looking forward to racing on a larger track than what we have been running on lately."
After a disastrous race at the I-70 Speedway last month in which the No. 22 Herzog Motorsports entry flipped twice, Johnson dropped to ninth in the points standings. Johnson and the team are seeking the spotlight, and ultimately the top prize, as they start the stretch that takes them to seven different states in nine weeks.
