SENNEKER FINISHES STRONG 2ND AT CEDAR RAPIDS

"IOWA 300" Hawkeye Downs Speedway, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Finished: 2nd Started: 19th (19.062, 94.429 mph)

After being on of the fastest drivers in practice, a poor qualifying run forced Bob to start 19th, with a track record in the first 3 events run at Cedar two wins and a second; it was guaranteed that Bob would find his way to the front. During the first caution, Bob radioed the crew that the the car "feels real good" while running 16th. The race goes green at lap 18 Bob is 15th at lap 23, 14th at lap 34 and 13th at lap 36. The 2nd caution flies at lap 40, by lap 51 were 12th, the third caution is at lap 65, by lap 71 we are in 11th , by lap 105 - 10th. With the 4th caution at lap 111, Bob pits for left side tires and fuel, he comes in 6th and gets out 3rd with a great stop. When the race goes back to green at lap 121, he is running 4th. By lap 124 he slides back to 6th, but charges to 5th at lap 133. When the 5th caution waves at lap 147, the "Bluebird " pits for right side tires coming in 4th and coming out 6th. With 3 drivers electing not to pit, Bob is running 9th, by lap 161 8th, lap 172 - 7th and 6th by lap 174. After the 6th caution at lap 174, the green flag waves at lap 179, he is 5th by lap 186. The 7th caution at lap 196 waves, all the lead cars pit except for Hansen, Senneker and St. Amant. When the green flag waves at lap 201, a quick caution flies at lap 204 for the 8th caution. Bob continues running in 2nd through the 9th caution at lap 224, at lap 240 Senneker makes his move past Hansen, for the lead. The 10th caution waves at lap 249 and Raines makes his way into 2nd right on Bob's bumper. When the green flag waves at lap 258, Bob takes off and continues to stretch out his lead over Raines working his way through lapped traffic. As he is leading he comes upon a lapped car in turn one that is high on the track, Bob goes low and the lapped car comes down into him. As Raines goes high around the car, the lapped car comes down into Bob again slowing down his momentum and with that Raines goes into the lead. Bob is charging now, driving hard to regain hi lead which was unfairly taken away. Lap after lap the veteran is applying pressure against the youngster Raines, when with 2 laps the go the final caution waves for a wreck in turn 3. ASA rules stipulate that the last laps must be run under green, that will allow Bob one last chance for the win. With the green waved Raines gets a great start and he win his first race of the 1996 season by .992 seconds over Bob. The victory should have been #83 for Bob but lapped traffic was the deciding factor. "The crew and car were awesome," Bob said, "We have a strategy that seems to work well at this track. The car was fast at the end, we did what we had to do." With his finish he moves into a tie for 3rd in the points. The finish in the Iowa 300 was; Raines, Senneker, St. Amant, Holzhausen, Loney, Sensiba, Schrock, Hansen, Smokstad and Cywinski. The next ASA race is this Sunday at Toledo (OH) Speedway for the Toledo 400 televised live on TNN at 1pm (EDT). ********************************************************************** AC Delco Challenge Series Points (After 16 events) 1.
