A special treat is in store for race fans this weekend at USA International Speedway as legendary NASCAR Winston Cup champion Cale Yarborough will take to the track in the 50 lap SARA Late Model race. Yarborough, who last competed in NASCAR's premier division in 1988, has continued his involvement in the Winston Cup series as a car owner until recently selling his team earlier this year. In a career that is storied to have begun by sneaking under the fence at the famed Darlington Raceway, Cale scored 83 victories including 4 in the Daytona 500. A product of a long forgotten era when the NASCAR championship included racing on the dirt tracks as well as paved and race cars did not have power steering, Cale was the first driver to record three consecutive titles, 1976-1978, while running at the finish of every race in the 1977 season, another first. Credited with leading 340 of the 559 events he started, 70 of which were from the pole position, Cale led a total of 31,776 laps of the possible 144,552. Cale is undeniably an invaluable contributor to the growth of modern day stock racing. Following Cale's retirement in 1988, his efforts as a car owner finally rewarded him with a win in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona July of 1998 when his driver, John Andretti, piloted the Yarborough Motorsports RCA Ford to Victory Lane. Cale will sign autographs during our traditional autograph session, which begins at 6 PM.
