Mickey Cain Looks For Montgomery Victory Lane

MONTGOMERY, AL - The American Racing Association (ARA) Southern Thunder Late Model series makes its third appearance of the season Saturday night at Montgomery Speedway, and Mickey Cain hopes to visit his new favorite place - winner's circle.

"If my car can be as perfect as it was at Peach State, I could win every race," says Cain with a grin. "Really, when you're car is good, you've got a chance to win."

Cain got his first taste of victory July 7th at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, GA, when he thoroughly dominated the field in his #37 Jewel Nix Grocery Ford. The win gave him a big boost of confidence going into Saturday's 125-lap race at Montgomery.

He will need confidence - and better luck - since his two previous starts at Montgomery have resulted in 15th place finishes. That is one of the reasons he's fighting his way into the top 10 of the point standings. After seven races, Cain is currently 13th in the Southern Thunder championship with 89 points.

Cain, of Jefferson, GA, could play a spoiler role for the championship battle in the second half of the season. Paul Kelley, of Snellville, GA, leads with 186 points, closely followed by Michael Lance, of Dacula, GA, with 173 and 14-year-old sensation Stephen Leicht, from Asheville, NC, with 167. Leicht won the last Southern Thunder race at Montgomery on June 23rd.

Practice for the Southern Thunder Late Models goes from 2-4 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m., with qualifying at 6 p.m. An autograph session is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the 125-lap scheduled for an 8 p.m. start.

Tickets are priced at $12 for adults, $8 for military, seniors and ages 13-18, and $2 for ages 7-17. Children under 6 are free. A special family pack of two adult and two children 18 and under is priced at $25.
