West Salem, Wis. (June 30, 2002)-- Veteran Butch Miller solidified his status as one of short track stock car racing's all-time greats, recording a second victory in just three outings this season, winning the Kul Brew 300 presented by Jani-King and Tobacco Outlet Plus at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway.
Miller executed an inside pass of primary race leader David Stremme on lap 287 to secure the lead for a first and only time en route to the win. The pass featured three cars wide through the fourth turn on the .625-mile oval with Miller's number #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo in the middle of three. It matches an earlier win at Berlin Raceway in June and becomes the 45th victory of his career.
Miller had to drive the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo through traffic again today. Starting 3rd on the grid Miller was trying to settle into race pace. Unfortunately like I-70, Miller was unable to avoid an accident involving lapped traffic on Lap 58. This incident caused substantial damage to the right front. Crew Chief Deon Deneau decided to bring the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo in for repairs. Miller re-entered the race in the 18th position.
"Once again, this Team has proven it has the resolve to overcome obstacles. I cannot believe this. With Butch Miller behind the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo, you can never count us out." says an excited Ken Smith.
"I think I may have had a little better tires than David late in the race," said Miller."This equipment that we have and the team are very capable. I couldn't be luckier than to have been asked to drive for Ken Smith in these races."
Deneau adds" I am so proud of this Team. I dedicate this race to the Crew. They were awesome today. We just kept fighting to get the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo up front."
Next up for Miller and the #04 ASILIMITED Monte Carlo is the Pennsylvania 300 presented by Jani-King will take the green flag at 2 p.m. (Eastern) on Sunday, July 14. The race is to be telecast live on TNN (The National Network) at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
