VERNON, NY - The month of August at the New Utica-Rome Speedway on Route 5 in Vernon is jam-packed with six scheduled racing events, including four regular shows and two long-awaited special shows.
The month is kicked off on Sunday August 6, when FEDERATED AUTO PARTS will present a regular show of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, & Pure Stocks plus the return of the highly popular One on One Spectator Races. Race time is set for 6pm.
Racing will continue on Sunday August 13, when PEPSI-COLA, the official softdrink supplier of the speedway, will present a regular program of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, & Pure Stocks. Also scheduled is the second appearance of the season for the New York State Slingshot Championship Tour, and it will all get underway at 6pm.
On Thursday August 17, the all-new United Late Model Series (ULMS) will bring the Dirt Late Models to Utica-Rome for the first time ever and back into Central New York for the first time since Super DIRT Week of 1996. Many of the top Late Model stars of the Southern Tier, McKean County Raceway, and a handful of the STARS and MACS Late Model organizations are expected to bring their lightning fast alcohol powered machines to Utica-Rome for this monumental event. Also scheduled that night is a $500 to win non-point event for the DIRT Sportsman, and racing will begin at 7pm.
Sunday August 20 will be FOREIGN AUTO PARTS NIGHT at Utica-Rome, and it will feature a regular show of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, Slingshots plus a Rollover Contest, scheduled to begin at 6pm.
The most anticipated event of the season at Utica-Rome, the return of the DIRT Big Block Modifieds in their first race since 1987, will occur on Thursday August 24. Scheduled is the NICE N' EASY GROCERY SHOPPES / ADVANCE AUTO PARTS Super DIRT Series 100 lap event for the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, plus a non-point $500 to win show for the DIRT Sportsman. The Big Block feature, which will offer a guaranteed spot for the Rolling Wheels Raceway World Series, has been dubbed the "Lou Lazzaro Memorial". The very best stars DIRT Motorsports has to offer will be at Utica-Rome to try to take home the $6000 winner's share in this exciting event. Time trials are slated to begin at 6:15pm and racing will begin promptly at 7pm.
The final event of August at Utica-Rome, scheduled for Sunday August 27, will feature the UFPO "DIG SAFELY" Sportsman Super DIRT Series in a special 30-lap event which will be a qualifier for Super DIRT Week at Syracuse. Also scheduled for that night will be a regular show of DIRT 358 Modifieds, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots with racing schedueld to begin at 6pm.
Points races in all divisions at the speedway are very close as August begins, and each race this month is very important, as drivers will try to get every point they can get. Positions could swap on a weekly basis, and it could very well go down to the wire. Track points will end on Sunday September 3rd, when track champions will be crowned for every division.
