Kendall Late Model Series Points Leader Teams Up With Robert Hamke
Plymouth, IN (July 2, 2001) - The all-time victory leader and the current points leader in the Kendall Late Model Series (KLMS), Brian Ross, makes his 2001 ASA ACDelco Series debut at Salem (IN) Speedway in the Tecumseh 300 on July 20-21. Ross is coming o ff his fourth career KLMS victory at Salem in late June. The Plymouth, Ind. native will make three appearances in ASA this season driving for Odle Motorsports. Besides racing at Salem, the 1999 KLMS Champion will challenge the highbanks in the Winchester 4 00 and also plans to attend the ASA season finale at Indianapolis Raceway Park in September.
"I'm very excited about the three races we have scheduled in ASA," said Ross. "Salem, Winchester and Indianapolis Raceway Park have been very good to me in the KLMS and we hope to carry that experience and success into the ASA Series. I have a great opport unity to work with Robert Hamke and Darin Odle. Robert has a lot of experience and knowledge in stock car racing and with the financial backing of Darin, everybody is excited about our chances this season."
The number 84 Pontiac will be sponsored by Robie's Steak House.
Robert Hamke, crew chief for Derrick Gilchrist in 1999 who collected three ASA victories and finished 10th in the standings, is crew chief for Ross in 2001. Last season, Hamke worked with several competitors in ASA, including Philip Kranefuss, Bobby Gill a nd David Stremme.
In 2000, Ross made two starts in ASA, one at Indianapolis Raceway Park and the other at Winchester Speedway. At Winchester, he was among the most dominant competitors until electrical problems ended his hopes of a strong finish on lap 367. Brian was a regu lar fixture in the ARCA Series, where he garnered rookie of the year honors and finished fourth in the standings. He also notched two KLMS victories and five top-ten finishes in only seven appearances.
In 57 career starts in the Kendall Late Model Series, Ross has amassed 22 victories including two wins in the 2001 season. After 8 events, he holds the points lead thanks to finishing in the top-five eight times and completing every lap in competition.
