Billy Ogle sweeps UDTRA "Rookie of the Race" honors in 3 holiday events.
(Knoxville, TN-- July 9, 2002) Billy Ogle, Jr. is making his mark as a national touring contender in America's exciting dirt late model racing wars. This past week Ogle won the Lucas Oil sponsored"Rookie of the Race" in each of the three United Dirt Track Racing Association (UDTRA) tour stops. The respectable holiday weekend UDTRA runs for Ogle, who pilots the Calhouns Restaurants / Die Cast Digest / UPS sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Bill Reed Racing, moves the Knoxville, TN racer into 12th place in the overall national championship standings on the top-rated dirt racing circuit as well as tightening the battle for the season-long challenge for the UDTRA Rookie of the Year honors. Ogle and fellow rookie contender Shane Tankersly are separated by just 26 points in the Lucas Oil Rookie of the Year battle heading into this weekend's UDTRA action at Hagerstown (MD) Speedway.
Ogle, a former multi-time track champion at Atomic Motor Speedway in his hometown of Knoxville, TN is anxiously looking forward to the next triple-header week on the UDTRA tour, which comes during the weekend of July 19-21. On that weekend, the UDTRA tour opens the three-day trek at Atomic Motor Speedway in Knoxville prior to a Saturday night date at Atlanta, GA's Dixie Speedway and a Sunday evening show in Rome, GA. The return home to a more familiar surface should bode well for Ogle's efforts on the high-profile dirt late model circuit. In addition to his past championships at Atomic Motor Speedway, Billy Ogle is also a former multi-time track champion at Crossville (TN) Speedway and Tazewell (TN) Speedway.
In addition to the team involvement by Calhouns Restaurants brand" The Taste of Tennessee"; Die-Cast Digest, the nation's leading publication for die-cast and other motorsports collectibles; and United Parcel Service other Tennessee-based partners in the Ogle-Reed racing efforts include Bonanza Produce, Fine Trucking, BiLo Market and West Haven Racing Equipment. The team competes in GRT Race Cars with horsepower provided by Clements Racing Engines of Spartanburg, SC. Ogle competes in Nationally Televised events on the UDTRA circuit, which are broadcast on the SPEED Channel.
