$47,000 up for grabs during PPMS & Big Diamond MACS weekend.
Saturday, August 3, the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) makes its second appearance of the season at the Miley Motorsports, Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Imperial, PA for the annual Nick Garin Memorial 40 paying $4,000 to-win.
This race is in honor of Nick, recognizing him as the founder and builder of the facility which debuted 1979. This jumbo 0x00bd mile measures 100 feet wide all the way around with high-speed, sweeping turns providing the opportunity for some of the best action in the region. "Dirt's Monster Half-Mile" welcomes the series back after their last visit just three short weeks ago for the Penn National 50. At that time, Tim Hitt bested 44 other competitors claiming the top prize.
The list of the previous two MACS winners of the Nick Garin Memorial are Doug Crawford ('01) and Mark Banal ('00). The program includes time trials, heats, dash, B Main(s), and the 40-lap, A Main.
The $22,000 total purse includes several highlights; sixth place offers a $1,000, while tenth is $500 and $300 to start. All drivers that fail to transfer to the A Main will receive $100. Pit Gate opens at 4:30 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting is slated for 5:45 p.m. followed by hot laps at approximately 6:15. Time trials will commence at 6:45 with racing slated immediately following. Also on the card is a full program for the Limited Late Models; E-Mods; Pure Stocks and Strictly Stocks. Adult general admission is $19.00 and pit passes are $29.00.
The next day, Sunday, August 4, the Series then marches east to the Big Diamond Raceway, Minersville, PA, for its inaugural visit at this 3/8th mile oval, affectionately called "Big D". This dynamite facility plays host to the Black Gold 50 paying $5,000 to-win. This $25,000 event boasts $1,000 for seventh, with $500 for fourteenth and $400 to-start.
Big Diamond, long noted for its outstanding action with Sportsman and Modifieds in eastern Pennsylvania will bring the ground pounding action of the Super Late Models in for a rare appearance. Since it is a Sunday nite show, the management, in conjunction with the Series, will attempt to present the event as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The pit gate opens at 4:00 p.m., with the grandstands opening at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps by at 6:00 p.m. with time trails slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m. sharp! Racing will immediately follow the conclusion of time trails. Also, co-headlining will be the Sportsman and Roadrunners.
