Big Diamond Coal Cracker Modified 100 To Pay $10,000 To Win

Minersville, PA - (Aug. 22) - Big Diamond Raceway's 22nd Annual Coal Cracker 100 for 358 Modifieds, is slated for Friday night, August 31. The best competitors on the Big Diamond/Grandview circuit, considered by many to be the one of the toughest weekly stock car circuits in the country, will be on hand along with a few invaders to contend for the $10,000 first prize.

The roadrunners will compete in a non-point 20-lap championship feature on the Coal Cracker card that carries an 8pm starting time. The rain date for the Coal Cracker 100 is Sunday, September 2.

The track will also be open on Thursday night, August 30 at 7:30, for a special open practice night for Modifieds, Roadrunners and any other division. The NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman will also be in competition in a 25-lap event. This event will again require Sportsman competitors to meet all Big Diamond Sportsman car specifications with one allowance only. Outsiders will be able to run their local track's track tire with the exception of East Windsor Speedway's track tire, which is more like drag rubber than the more common tires used at Big Diamond and other Sportsman tracks. Also a loop hole in the Big Diamond rules permitting a grace period on bodies non-conformances has been close and absolutely no sail panel bodies will be permitted.

The track initiated a new modified tradition in 2000 that will stay with the annual Coal Cracker event, all past Coal Cracker winners since the initial run in 1979 will be guaranteed starters if they are current active racing competitors. To be eligible for a guaranteed spot, past winners must have competed regularly in a full-size class in 2000 like modifieds, sportsman, sprints or late models or must have competed in a modified or sportsman at least once during the year at Big Diamond. Eligible drivers electing to provide entries for the 100 will be able to use their "guaranteed" status to start at the rear of the 100 should they not qualify, guaranteeing them a minimum of $325 payoff..

The list of past Coal Cracker champions includes three-time winners Jeff Strunk (Bethel) and Charlie Eckert (Auburn); two-time winners Duane Howard (Oley), Kenny Brightbill (Sinking Spring) and Doug Hoffman (Allentown); and single victors Tom Mayberry (Sellersville), Rick Schaffer (Woxall), Richie Tobias (Annville), Craig Von Dohren (Barto), Billy Pauch (Frenchtown, NJ). Fred Rahmer (Salfordville), Billy Schinkel (Llewelyn), Paul Koch (Alburtis) and Bob Emerich (Hamburg). Of these drivers, only Eckert, Schinkel and Emerich are no longer active drivers. Big Diamond Raceway/Grandview Speedway regulars Strunk, Howard, Mayberry, Schaffer, Von Dohren and Koch are expected and word is that Pauch may be returning with his D. A. Hansen 1P to defended his 2000 CoalCracker win.

Among the others looking crack the winner's circle for this rich event are Keith Hoffman (Whitehall), Terry Meitzler (Kutztown), Jim Hauer (Lebanon), Steve Bottcher (Lehighton), Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville), Meme DeSantis (Temple), Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville), Kyle Weiss (Hamburg), Larry Kelleher (Scranton,), Shawn Reimert (Oley), Dennis Bailey (Kutztown), Tom Umbenhauer (Richland), Bob Trapper (Scranton), Barry Readinger (Fleetwood) and more.
