Chris Bradley Memorial Race rescheduled for September 10; Benson to participate.
MARNE, MI -- Berlin Raceway's Open Invitational Memorial 100 Tribute to Chris Bradley presented by Meijer and Tony's Pizza, originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, but postponed due to an injury to NASCAR Winston Cup driver Johnny Benson, will be made up on Tuesday, September 10. Benson will compete in the race.
Benson suffered a broken rib in a crash at the Busch Series race in Richmond, VA, on May 3 and was unable to race for a month.
Fans who had tickets to the May 8 race may use those tickets on September 10 for the Chris Bradley Memorial Race (no ticket exchange is necessary). Ticket prices for the race are $21 in advance or $22 on the day of the race.
The $10,000-to-win race includes two 50-lap qualifiers and a 100-lap Coors Light Late Model race as well as a non-points Engine Pro Super Stock feature.
The late Chris Bradley, a Coopersville native, was killed in a pit road accident while working as the crew chief for Adam Petty's ASA car in 1998. He began his ASA career as Benson's crew chief.
The memorial race serves as a fundraiser for the Chris Bradley Memorial Scholarship fund, a sub-fund of the Coopersville Area Community Foundation, which awards one scholarship per year to a Coopersville High School student who plans to pursue a career in the automotive industry. One dollar from every ticket sold for the race will be donated to the fund. In addition, Tony's Pizza and Meijer stores will donate three cents for every frozen Tony's Pizza sold during the week of the race to the foundation.
Berlin Raceway's September schedule is now packed with five races, as race officials have activated two rain dates. Weekly races will be held each Saturday in September, concluding on September 28, in addition to the September 10 Chris Bradley Memorial.
