Australian V8 Stock Car Series
Calder Park Raceway
Race One - Sunday, November 25, 2001
Andrew Miedecke has continued his reign at the top of the V8 Stock Car field by taking out the first of three races constituting the fifth and final round of the Australian V8 Stock Car series.
Driving a Chev Monte Carlo, Miedecke grabbed the lead from the outset and was never headed, finally taking the finish 6.6 seconds ahead of the Ford Thunderbird of Richard Howe.
Howe was third behind the Chev of Rusty French on the opening lap. He dropped another spot when passed by rookie Rodney Crick but gained second when Crick and French collided midway through the race.
Chris Templer (Pontiac) moved up to third place and look set for a podium finish but suffered a spin with two laps to go. George Elliot who was helped off the circuit at the first corner of the race stormed through the field to eventually finish third.
Templer was able to recover to finish fourth clear of a three-way battle for fifth involving Tony Southwell (Chev), Barry Blake (Chev) and Martin Burrows (Ford).
