CAMARILLO, Calif. (April 27, 2004) -- Ashley Utts, the teenaged stock car racer, returns to racing action with the remainder of the Pony Stock class at Ventura Raceway May 1.

The 17-year-old is a junior and an honor student at Oaks Christian High School. She is also a varsity volleyball player at Oaks Christian and plays club volleyball during the off-season. She was recently the subject of a feature story in the Los Angeles Daily News.

"Volleyball and racing are very different sports," Utts said. "But they have some things in common. Preparation is real important before a match or a race and experience means a lot, too."

Utts' car is prepared by veteran driver Charles Utts, her father, and award-winning mechanic Kristen Utts, Ashley's mother.

Ashley Utts begins the May 1 event 18th in points after a disappointing 18th-place finish on April 24. Her competition that night was curtailed by a lap-three collision that resulted in a flat tire that was not repaired in time to resume racing.

Utts drives the Custom Printing-sponsored Ford Mustang. She represents the third generation in her family to drive a racecar, following her grandfather and both parents. Utts Racing has a total of 50 main event victories scored at racetracks around the Southwestern states.
