Nicolas Minassian - Contact ends race victory hopes.
ROCKINGHAM MOTOR SPEEDWAY - Qualifying: RML driver, Nicolas Minassian, finished third in yesterday's race and during an unorthodox 15 minute qualifying session this morning maintained his third place on the grid.
"I don't understand why we have to qualify again, but I have not lost or gained anything on the grid so I guess we have to be happy. I'll continue to push in the race as usual and we'll try to bring home the win."
Note: Normally, when back to back races are run in the ASCAR series the grid for the second race is created from the previous race results. Today due to the additional car being run by Colin McRae (World Rally Championship contender), the organisers of the event took the decision to run a 15 minute qualifying session to allow him to take part in the race later today.
ROCKINGHAM MOTOR SPEEDWAY - RACE TWO: Ray Mallock Limited (RML) driver Nicolas Minassian started third and in his characteristic driving style, moved his way up the field, battling for several laps with Colin White (CWS) for the lead. However there were numerous yellow flags throughout the session which did not help any of the drivers get their tyres up to temperature and therefore up to optimum speed and grip and it made passing difficult.
The reasons for the yellow flags could not be established in all cases and it seems that perhaps the officials were being a little over cautious. On the final lap Minassian took the inside line underneath White and was forced to the grass, contact was made and he and his rival dropped through the field - Minassian finishing in twelfth.
"As usual I worked hard and was battling for the win. Every time on the restart I got forced to back out or take to the grass, the last lap it was do or die and it didn't work out but he could have given me a little more room I feel. It seems like anything goes in this series, it doesn't seem very professional to me."
