February 11, St. Augustine, Fla.- American Racing Association President John Huffman announced Saturday at Florida Speed Park, the scene of SpeedFest 2000, that the ARA All Star Tour has selected Goodyear racing tires as their tire of choice for the 2000 season.
"This is a strong move for both ARA and Goodyear," said Huffman. "It's a partnership that will serve both parties very well and I'm extremely happy to have Goodyear on board. We've been working on this deal for some time and we've talked to a lot of tire manufacturers. I'd just like to say that everyone we've talked to has done everything they could do to strike the best deal possible. But Goodyear is the rubber that we have chosen and when ARA All Star Tour makes their inaugural appearance here at Florida Speed Park Feb. 19 every car out there will be on Goodyear tires."
Goodyear representative Larry Robinson echoed Huffman's enthusiasm about the deal adding, "We understand John's vision of the short track touring program and feel that we will be able to meet the needs of the racer and at the same time, the needs of the racing business."
The 2000 ARA Tour will consist of 18 races at 6 of the seven Huffman owned speedways and ARA officials are already courting new venues for the 2001 season.
"The short track racing program needed a shot in arm following the disappearance of Winston and the support they offered to both the racer and the speedways," said Huffman. "The ARA was formed to fill that void and has been very well received by both. We will offer the racer a tremendous amount of promotion through our televised events, the ARA Magazine, web sites and many other promotional avenues that will be available to them."
Huffman continued, "There's a long list of perks to racing under the ARA banner that has not been available to a lot of racers up to this point and we're very proud of the fact that we will be able to be a part of building a better short track racing program at a lot of speedways that need and deserve some help down the road."
