Kilby Increases ARA Kool Seal Challenge Points Lead

PENDERGRASS, GA - Scott Kilby of Statesville, NC, increased his advantage to 20 points over Keith Bumgarner of Conover, NC, in the American Racing Association (ARA) Kool Seal Challenge Series with another maximum point earning performance in winning the Bobby Isaac Memorial 200 Saturday night at Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway.

Kilby earned five points for qualifying on the front row, and then elected to invert and start his #30 A&H Windows Chevrolet in sixth. Kilby then proceeded to earn the maximum 10 bonus passing points by winning the race, his fifth Bobby Isaac Memorial 200.

Bumgarner qualified his #95 Country Chair Ford fourth, but elected not to invert (and start ninth), and then finished a close second to Kilby. Kilby led laps 123-200 of the race, many of them with Bumgarner right on his bumper.

But with the bonus points, Kilby increased his lead over Bumgarner to 20 points (495 to 475) heading into the next event, the Kool Seal Twin 125 on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, GA.

Westley Huffman of Blytheville, SC., finished eighth at Hickory but remained third in the championship standings with 415 points. Greg Marlow of Troutman, NC, gained four points on Huffman thanks to a great run in his #07 Southern Pride Chevrolet (he started 15th and finished fourth) and now only trails Huffman by 15 points in the battle for third place.

Teenage sensation Stephen Leicht of Asheville, NC, dropped from sixth to seventh after a 26th place finish at Hickory in his #99 Action Racing Collectibles Ford. Leicht led early in the race, and then got bumped by Tom Pistone and dropped out on lap 177.

The ARA Southern Thunder series was idle last week, and Paul Kelley will take a 15-point lead over Leicht into the Labor Day weekend race at Peach State. Kelley has 245 points to Leicht's 230, but Leicht won at Peach State on Aug. 12th. Michael Lance is third in the Southern Thunder standings with 214 points.

The next event for both ARA touring series will be the Kool Seal Twin 125s at Peach State Speedway on Sunday, September 2.
